Rainfall

Total rainfall in the summer of 2022 from March to September was 17.775 inches compared to summer of 2021 which was 17.35 inches.  Comparing the last four summers for May through September, 2022 had 14.16 inches, 2021 had 13.08 inches, 2020 had 18.91 inches and 2019 had 31.01 inches.  These four comparisons excluded March, April and October due to differing months in each year’s data. Note that the past two summers have had half the rainfall of 2019 and well below the average of  24.3 inches for the previous ten years.

July 21-22, 1972 Grand Daddy Flash Flood

10.84 inches fell in 24 hours was set at Fort Ripley. This was the state record for a highest 24 hour total at a National Weather Service station until Hokah broke the record in 2007.

At the time, statistics showed that a 5 1/2 inch 24-hour rainfall occurred at a point in Todd-Morrision Counties once every 100 years.
